Garlic and Herb Pull-Apart Bread is soft and tender, perfect for serving as an appetizer with cheese spread.
Spring is (almost) here. Sooner or later, right? With the sub zero temps and record high snowfalls across the country, it’s a bit hard to imagine there are any signs of spring in sight. However, today I did spot a sure sign that spring is coming – the days are getting longer! Time for plants to come alive and flowers to bloom, spring celebrations…. and of course, fresh Spring recipe ideas!
Now if you ask me what better way to host a perfect Spring gathering, I’d say we need some Garlic and Herb Pull-Apart Bread served with a cheese spread. These soft and pillowy bread rolls are baked in a ring shape, which makes it so fun to pull apart each bread roll one by one. It looks as special as it tastes, and would be perfect as an appetizer for spring holidays, baby shower, or any spring or garden party.
If you’ve never made bread from scratch before, you’ll be surprised with how easy it is. No kneading is required with this recipe! And no stand mixer or bread machine either. I must say I was a bit skeptical when I first learned about no-knead bread recipes, but somehow it just works!
Of course, if you don’t have time to make the dough from scratch, you can always make it with frozen dinner rolls. You don’t need to thaw them out first, just arrange them in a baking dish or cast iron skillet frozen and then let them thaw out and proof until double in size.
Garlic and Herb Pull-Apart Bread
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1/4 cup plus 1 tbsp sugar divided
- 4 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup lukewarm milk
- 2 large eggs beaten
- 6 tbsps unsalted butter melted and divided
- 1 clove garlic finely minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine yeast, warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let stand for five minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt and remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Make a well in the center.
- Add milk, eggs, 3 tbsps of melted butter, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until combined. The dough will be slightly sticky.
- Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and place in a warm place to rise for 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size. Punch down the dough and turn onto a floured work surface. Divide into 20 small pieces of dough.
- In a bowl, whisk together remaining 3 tbsps melted butter with garlic and Italian seasoning. Dip each piece of dough into the butter mixture, then place it in a 12-inch skillet or baking sheet in a ring shape. Repeat and make sure there is some space between the rolls. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise again for 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400F. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
I made these rolls for serving with Kaukauna® Cheese Spread Cups, which make great appetizers for spring parties and celebrations. Kaukauna® is a delicious and easy entertaining solution made with 100% real cheddar, which can be enjoyed by itself or as part of a recipe.
This Garlic and Herb Pull-Apart Bread would also pair well with Kaukauna® cheese balls and logs – I’m thinking Asiago Cheese and Port Wine…MmmMmm! I was able to find a variety of Kaukauna® products at my local Shoprite. Be sure to grab this Ibotta offer available starting March 14!
