The perfect last minute dessert or edible gift for the holidays – it’s so easy to whip-up too.
Want to make something sweet for the holidays with little effort and just a few ingredients? These butterfly shaped palmiers (or elephant ears as they are often called) are exactly what you need. They’re buttery and flaky, and have a nice crunch from the cinnamon sugar tucked in between layers.
Every time I see them at the bakery I can’t resist picking up a giant one to enjoy with my coffee. Who would’ve thought that they’re so easy to make at home?!
All you need is a pack of puff pastry, sugar, and cinnamon. That’s it!
Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top, roll them up, and cut them into slices. And it doesn’t take long in the oven before they magically puff up.
Make sure you let them cool completely before serving since they will crisp up more as they cool.
Cinnamon Sugar Palmiers {Elephant Ears}
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry thawed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper
- Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle half of the sugar mix on work surface and lay the puff pastry on top. Sprinkle the remaining sugar evenly on top and roll the puff pastry sheet into an even rectangle.
- Starting from the long edge, roll up each end of the dough to meet in the middle then fold one half over the other half.
- Cut the dough into 1/4-inch slices and place the slices on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 12 minutes until caramelized on one side. Turn the slices over and bake for another 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown.
- Let cool completely before serving.
